Cairo: June 1st, 2021

Under the slogan “Tagalyat .. ttwarthha El agyal” Transfigurations that are inherited through our generations, The United Bank launched a project to empower the people of Saint Catherine, specifically the Transfiguration “Tagly” Mountain region in South Sinai Governorate, and to operate 350 families as a first stage. Under the auspices of the Governor of South Sinai, Major General Khaled Fouda, and Major General Talaat El Anani - President of Saint Catherine City.

The economic empowerment project for the people of Saint Catherine and the Transfiguration “Tagaly” Mountain region seeks to promote entrepreneurship to improve competitiveness and productivity, especially in the field of manufacturing agricultural and food products and handicrafts for which this region is famous, such as: the mountain honey extraction industry, the olive oil extraction and pressing industry, the cultivation of natural herbs, the cultivation of almonds and the soap industry as well as handicrafts with the famous Sinai embroidery and the manufacture of beads.

Which is reflected in the added value of these products and work on building the capacities of small farmers and manufacturers and providing them with technical and material support through workshops to teach how to prepare feasibility studies for these projects as well as packaging methods according to the international specifications to ensure product quality as well as modern marketing methods and the availability of various financing programs. This creates a more competitive economic climate.

Commenting on the launch of the project to empower the people of Saint Catherine and the Transfiguration Mountain region, Ashraf El Kady - Chairman of The United Bank - says that the project works to provide a decent life for 350 families as a first stage which contributes to the consolidation of the principles of human rights and deepen the belonging to the spirit of the homeland.

He added that this model of economic empowerment comes in line with The United Bank's strategy in sustainable community development for a number of targeted societal segments, especially women and youth which will reflect positively on the chances of maximizing the economic and social return for the state as a whole.

Ashraf El Kady expressed that the project to empower the people of Saint Catherine and the Transfiguration “Tagaly” Mountain region relied on the diversity of products and various financing programs that suit the people’s needs of the region from very small and micro projects. In order to help them to develop their projects and to provide a decent life for citizens and reduce unemployment and poverty rates.
 
El Kady explained that The United Bank conducted an expanded community dialogue for the people of Saint Catherine and the Transfiguration “Tagaly” Mountain region was the establishment of several hearings for the people of the region in order to know their real needs and the difficulties they face, especially when marketing their products outside the scope of South Sinai Governorate.

The reflection of these sessions was positive. Where it contributed to the individual's sense of responsible community partnership and that his ideas, ambitions and problems are close to being completed through real solutions and programs implemented for his benefit. As well as its effective role in spreading the culture of entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity, especially among the youth and women sectors, to create a favorable climate for the implementation and development of the small, medium and micro projects sector.

Major General Khaled Fouda - Governor of South Sinai - indicated that the state, with all its departments, adopts an investment policy in building the Egyptian person through rehabilitation programs and raising efficiency, especially for women and youth, and economic empowerment to reduce poverty and unemployment.

He praised the efforts of The United Bank in this regard. The bank is considered a major partner in the process of developing and enhancing Saint Catherine city and the surrounding valleys, economically and socially.

On the economic side: The United Bank was interested in economic empowerment programs for groups of society in this region. This appeared in the project for the development of the people of Saint Catherine and the Transfiguration Mountain region under the slogan Tagalyat .. ttwarthha El Agyal”  Transfigurations that are inherited through out generations".

Major General Khaled Fouda added that The United Bank was concerned with the social aspect where it built pentacle football playgrounds to develop and show the talents of young people. These playgrounds are very popular for the youth of Saint Catherine and the Transfiguration “Taglay” Mountain region.

He referred to the efforts of The United Bank to support the people of Saint Catherine and the surrounding valleys through the campaign of our children in our eyes and the support of Saint Catherine Hospital as well as food convoys during the holy month of Ramadan and the campaign to face the spread of the Corona virus.

Major General Talaat El Anani, mayor of Saint Catherine, said that the population of Saint Catherine has reached 9,000 people, according to the last population census conducted last 2016. It is considered the largest nature reserve in Egypt. Most of the city's population works in agriculture, grazing and tourism services. The city is famous for religious tourism, safari tourism and mountain climbing.

He praised the efforts and programs of The United Bank for the economic empowerment of the people of the region, especially women and youth, which will be carried out in stages aiming to create job opportunities, eradicating poverty and the region sustainable development in many areas, the most important of which are greenhouses.
