Under the theme "Spectrum of Capacities and Diversity of Opportunities", Autism Month Campaign was held on the occasion of World Autism Day 2017. Where a training and employment seminar for people with autism was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the National Council for Disability and The United Bank.

 

Dr. Ghada Wally, Minister of Social Solidarity, inaugurated the symposium held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Solidarity under the patronage of The United Bank and a number of donors supporting the April 2017 Autism Month Campaign. Dr. Ghada Wally, Minister of Social Solidarity, said in her speech yesterday that the "spectrum of capacities" seminar addresses the right of those infected with this developmental disability at work. She said the efforts of civil society and families have contributed significantly to raising awareness of this infection, but there are still problems related to diagnosis of disease and the integration process.

 

She stressed the role of the family, civil society and countries in caring for those injured and facilitating the process of social integration and care for their rights to work and rehabilitation.

 

Ashraf Al Kady, Chairman of The United Bank, said that the bank participated for the first time in Autism campaign, stems from the reality of social responsibility and great attention to this marginalized group of society, the society still lacks sufficient awareness to deal with these people and methods of employment rates of disability in the work that benefit them and the community as a whole.

 

Al Kady pointed to global statistics that indicate that the number of people with disabilities around the world reached 15% of the population, and that there is a steady increase in the number of people with autism has reached the diagnosis of 1 in every 100 children, according to the World Health Organization. Autism disorder is not new. It was first discovered in 1943, but it began to appear clearly after the great development of tools and tests that it diagnoses more accurately.

 

Ashraf Al Kady said that the sponsorship of The United Bank aims to raise public awareness and highlight the need for people with autism spectrum disorders to improve their life quality in a manner that guarantees them a decent life, whether as children or adults, and to provide opportunities for genuine integration into society.

 

Maha Hilaly, president of the Egyptian Association for the Advancement of Persons with Disabilities and Autism, said that the association is active in raising public awareness of this disorder especially in the governorates of the Republic. The association's activity extends to 14 governorates of the republic such as Cairo, Alexandria, Dakahlia, Assiut, Aswan, Damietta, Qaliubiya, Fayoum, Qena, Menoufia, Luxor and Beni Suef.
