On the margins of expedition “Torathna”- the fifth edition under the auspices of Mr. President and organized by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA). Laky forum reviews number of successful stories for handicraftsmen throughout the tour in its corridors.

Commenting on Laky visit, El Kady said that Laky forum supports and encourages the handicraftsmen through organizing serious of visit to purchase distinctive handcrafts.

He mentioned that UB has launched a group of social and economic initiatives and products to empower and support the handicraftsmen. Aiming to participate in localizing the handicrafts industry plans, especially with the global approaches towards consideration given to local industries amid global crisis.

El Kady added that handicrafts sector is a promising either on the local industry level or globally exported level. Especially those concentrated on Gulf countries and their demand for copper-ware, carpets, wood-ware and silverware.

The volume of handicrafts exports is annually around 250 million dollars, as per the report issued from the industrial union handcrafts chamber. The local sales of this sector represent around from 5 to 8 million L.E, with work force reaches to around 3 million citizens. Meanwhile, the investments volume is around 20 billion L.E.

El Kady assured that the state with its institutions and the banks sector led by The Central Bank of Egypt are working very hard to support the handicraftsmen and micro- enterprises. Through providing many developmental initiatives for those projects and qualifying them to achieve growth required.

Moreover, the efforts concerted by the state in organizing the expeditions periodically, coming on the top “Torathna” for handcrafts, in addition to mobile expeditions in governorates. As well as, providing training opportunities for a large number of citizens through the Decent Life initiative “Haya Karima”. Aiming to empower women and youth economically. Industrial Modernization Center works on boosting the competitive capability of these handcrafts, especially in North and South Sinai and Upper Egypt. In addition, to supporting and facilitating their existence in some industrial and investment areas to keep these handcrafts from extinction.

El Kady made it clear that tourism refreshment is directly reflected on the increase in sales volume. Tourists search always for Egyptian handcrafts especially for their competitiveness in price and quality.

Laky forum members have shown their admiration to the quality of Egyptian products for their price, and distinctive designs that reflect the Egyptian culture and identity.
