On the annual sustainable development conference margins The United Bank and Dar Al Orman are partners in 5 large developmental national projects in Upper Egypt

Under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, The annual conference for sustainable development- 3rd edition is held today, under the slogan of Business sector partnerships: Towards more effective sustainable solutions.

Dr. Nevine Kabaj – Ministry of Social Solidarity gives the inauguration speech today on behalf of His Excellency The Egyptian President.  In the presence of Dr. Mohamed Maeet- Ministry of Finance, El Sayed El Quser – Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and Consultant Mostafa El Hemm – Luxor Governor, Lamis Negm – The Central Bank of Egypt governor’s consultant for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable development, and Soha El Gendy- Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs.   

On the margins of the annual conference for sustainable development- 3rd edition The United Bank announced its partnership with Dar Al Orman foundation in 5 large developmental projects in Upper Egypt.

First: Shefaa El Orman hospital in Luxor

In 2017, The United Bank participated with El Orman in the establishment phases for Shefaa El Orman hospital. UB has purchased a dialysis machine for the surgical critical care unit. Since then, the partnership has grown and developed.  It included medication support for 440 thousand cases (chemotherapy, radiology, and operations). In addition to the financial support in terms of treatment and hospitality in Luxor for patients coming from other governorates.

Shefaa El Orman is the first and been regarded as one of the largest free specialized hospital for cancer in Upper Egypt. The hospital serves a huge number of patients from 6 governorates (Luxor- Aswan- El Wadi Elgded- Red Sea- Qena- Sohag), with around 15 million people and around 15.000 cancer cases a year.

Second: Khorshid village- Ahansia center- Beni Suef governorate

In the frame work of the national project Decent Life, UB reconstructed Khorshid village- Ahansia center- Beni Suef governorate, with the cooperation of El Orman foundation. The reconstruction included building 54 houses, and 21 water delivery facilities, and 50 electricity facilities. In addition, to the distribution of 50 head of cattle, and providing financial support as a cattle dietary allowance. As well as, providing 5 booths with goods and fridges all free of charge for the beneficiaries of the village residents.

These beneficiaries were well chosen from UB and El Orman, with the cooperation of The Social Solidarity, according to an accurate social research on them, and as per their need and hard life styles they are going through. In addition to full coordination to make all needed procedures to insure cattle safety, and provide the beneficiaries with veterinary instructions to guarantee the success of the project.

Third: Sacrifice Deeds Campaign – Sak El Odhya

UB, along with El Orman launched Sacrifice Deeds Sak El Odhya and charity meat campaign in the occasion of Al Adha feast. It provides a great opportunity to benefit from sacrificial meat and distribute it to the deserving all over Egypt.

Fourth: Warm Egypt Campaign

UB participated with El Orman, in 2016, in the campaign to provide Warm and shelter to villages in Upper Egypt. A number of 1000 blankets were distributed with Upper Egypt people affected by the floods.

Fifth: Sattre We Daffa campaign

In order to continue the joint efforts between UB and El Orman to support incapable families, and alleviate the coldness of winter on families, children and elderly people. That was through opening a donation account to receive donations to purchase blankets. UB staff and clients participated in the campaign throughout UB branches network.

UB provides its clients with all tools to facilitate their donation and provide support and social solidarity, by launching a package of digital solutions named “Your Bank Online”: Mobile Banking, Internet Banking, UB Digital Wallet, in addition to more than 225 ATMs all over Egypt. Digital solutions work 24/7 with the latest international standards.

Commenting on this developmental partnership and national projects between UB and El Orman, Ashraf Al Kady- Chairman of The United Bank, stated that the developmental work is regarded as a national epic with all measurements. The growing partnership among the State, economic institutions and civil society institutions is a national epic to the symbiotic relationship among Egyptians to support the most needed villages and marginalized populations towards decent life.

Al Kady mentioned that His Excellency President El Sisi has called last year 2022 “Year of Civil Society”, and with the beginning of this year 2023, His excellency witnessed the ceremony of launching the National Alliance for Civil Work. This is a confirmation on the importance of the role done by civil society organizations to support The Egyptian State in the way of sustainable development and achieving social equity. It also indicates the State’s commitment to fully coordinate with civil society institutions to expand the developmental and service inclusion base to all over the Republic, including marginalized regions, to insure the delivery of service to the deserving, whether financial support or health, education and opportunities service.

From his side, Engineer Hossam El Kabbany- Chairman of El Orman foundation - stated that Orman institution appreciates UB efforts in implementing its social responsibility and achieving the target of sustainable development, and Egypt’s vision 2030. Indicating that UB is devoted to participate in different activities presented by the foundation to the most needed segments, and there are future plans to continue the cooperation with UB for many coming years, to maximize the return for the beneficiaries.

El Orman, a non-profitable foundation works in the Egyptian society for thirty years, and cooperating with institutions, and individuals to serve the most needed segments in all governorates. El Orman targets achieving 12 sustainable development goals through its developmental work, which all consistent with Egypt’s vision 2030, that’s through main basic axis:

  • Health: through Shefaa Al Orman hospital for cancer treatment in Upper Egypt- performing cardiac and eyes surgeries- providing prosthetic devices and artificial limbs to people with special needs.
  • Developing the society: through reconstructing unsafe houses- water utilities delivery- providing job opportunities, small enterprises for incapable and women breadwinners.
  • Orphan care: through managing 5 orphanages and children with special needs, and organizing Orphan Day on the first Friday of April every year.
  • Seasonal aids: through distributing food boxes in Ramadan, sacrificial meat all over the year to eliminate starvations, distributing blankets, trellis ceils in the framework of Sattre we dhafa campaign to protect families from winter coldness.
