Cairo: 14th of March, 2023

The United Bank and Sonaa El Kheir foundation for development –member of the national alliance for non-governmental developmental work, in the framework of the presidential initiative Decent life “Hayaa Karima”, launch the development project for Nagaa El Gosoor village in Luxor, under the sponsorship of Nevene El Kabbag- Minister of Social Solidarity, and with the full coordination of Mr. Mostafa ElHam- Governor of Luxor.

Beginning with rebuilding dilapidated village houses, creating untraditional job opportunities suitable for the nature of the living conditions for the target families to accomplish economic empowerment, and providing a package of integrated high- quality medical services for students in the village.

The launching for the development project was witnessed by deputy governor of Luxor, undersecretary of Minister of social solidarity in Luxor, El Toud city governor, with the presence of UB work team: Gehane Abou Hussein- Head of Ethar, Germien Amer- Head of corporate communications, and team work of Ethar, and corporate communications, and from Sonaa El Kheir side: Hany Abdel Fattah- Executive Manager of Sonaa El Kheir foundation, Essam Abdel Rahman- Manager of media center, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Galeel- Quality and Follow up Manager.

Meticulous Study for the needs of Naga El Gosoor village

UB and Sonaa El Kheir choice of Naga El Gosoor village came after a meticulous study to the village and residents’ situation, especially that the village has been classified as one of the neediest villages in Toud city. The village is in El Toud city in Luxor governorate. It’s 6 million meter square, with around 19 thousand people. Most of the residents work in fishing. It only has 3 primary schools and 2 preparatory. With no health unit nor ambulance. The village has no youth center, supply unit nor pipeline warehouse.

The development works comprises the rebuilding of 24 worn houses, establishing projects to accomplish economic empowerment for the unable, those projects are about purchasing and qualifying 25 fishing new boats. As well as, providing integrated health services for students, through the medical convoy Our Children in Our Eyes “awaldna fe einena” to examine the unable and provide them with medications for free. In addition, providing all medical interventions to primary students. And distributing humane aids in form of 400 food cartoon that are to be taken by needed families.

Naga El Gosoor village is UB second development project targeting Egyptian rural after Khorshid village in Beni Suef

Commenting on launching phase of the development project Naga El Gosoor as the second village adopted by UB after Khorshid village, Ahansia center, BeniSuef governorate, Ashraf EL Kady- Chairman of The United Bank, says that the development project in Naga El Gosoor comes as a quick response to the directions of Mr. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, those directions for economic institutions to be a part of Egyptian rural development through their corporate social responsibility within the framework of Decent Life.

Social sustainable development comes within strategic fundamentals of UB

Social responsibility is among the most important strategic fundamentals of UB, aiming to achieve sustainable development as per The United Nations sustainable development 2017 targets. Through contribution to local communities’ development and providing health care to citizens.

Enhancing education, economic and health empowerment are UB priorities in development programs

El Kady pointed out that UB works according to an ambitious plan implemented by Ethar for social development. It came out of the belief of the importance of effectively participate in developing the Egyptian rural, through well studied steps that are characterized by sustainability and integration, as per a real measurement to the needs of the residents, aiming to make a real difference in their living environment.

Naga El Gosoor village development is crowning UB’s strategy in sustainable development

El Kady added that development activities in Naga El Gosoor comes as a coronation to all UB activities in sustainable social responsibility field, through making an effective and positive difference in all the needy families surroundings inside the target village. Beginning with the suitable housing to providing untraditional job opportunities that are suitable for the common economic activities, and the available natural resources, to helping the residents to have good health as per the Egyptian vision 2023.

Partnership with UB includes working in 3 axes: health, humane aids, and social development

Mostafa Zamzam- Chairman of board of trustees Sonaa El Kheir foundation, affirmed that the cooperation with UB in developing Naga El Gosoor village comes an extension to the earlier fruitful cooperation between the two institutions. That cooperation has begun since providing humane aids to needy families in borderline governorates, especially those residents in valleys and mountain regions in Saint Catherine, and Middle and South Sinai and desert areas in Halyeb We Shalateen reaching out for residents in Ras Hadraba- the last Egyptian village on the Sudanese borderlines. The development program included providing integrated high quality health care services to the students in the neediest students in a number of governorates. Through launching Our Children in Our Eyes “awaldna fe einena” initiative that traveled through many schools to many villages in Cairo, Fayoum, South Sinai, and Red Sea.

Four phases for development work in Naga El Gosoor village

Zamzam mentioned that development activities in Naga El Gosoor village are to implemented on four basic phases, beginning with:

  • A general survey of the needs of the village residents and taking in good consideration to their sufferings, either in housing, or their income resources and health issues.
  • The second phase: selecting what activities are to be executed and implemented in the village, that accomplish the cooperation target, which is providing them decent life.
  • Then comes the implementation phase which we are celebrating today its launch.
  • Finally comes following up phase and measuring the feedback.
