The United Bank submits its account statement for year 2022 with 45 economic, social, and cultural achievements

The United Bank settled its outstanding place in the market, with a range of 45 economic, social, and cultural achievements, amid the big international challenges. As well as, innovating a competitive package of banking solutions, aiming to support the Egyptian state approach towards attracting local and international investments, and settling the Egyptian industry. Besides, meeting the clients’ needs, in the framework of the state’s plan for digital transformation and green economy application.

The United Bank annual achievements

Ashraf El Kady- Chairman of The United Bank, stated that UB manages to accomplish the difficult equation between increasing productivity and using human resources, to present a successful corporate organization, capable of competition, and acquiring a bigger segment of the banking transactions in the Egyptian market.

First: On the corporate banking

UB participated in a big number of syndication, that target funding industrial, agricultural, and service activities.

The United Bank participated in 6 syndications, with a total of around 2.150 billion pounds, targeting Petrol sector, communications, agricultural, and real estate sectors.

  • In May 2022, UB has participated in a funding alliance for Canal Sugar Company, led by The National Bank of Egypt, by being the chief coordinator in the green finance, amongst a constellation of 9 banks at 12.5 billion pounds. The purpose for financing a side of investing cost of the cultivation and development of 181 thousand acres in the west of Menia governorates. According to the presidential program that is to cultivate 1.5 million acres, 600 thousand of them are in western Menia. Besides, establishing and operating a factory to produce sugar with a production capacity reaches 900,000tons of sugar annually.

 

  • In March 2022, UB has participated as one of the contributors in launching of the first Egyptian sports support fund, under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Banque Misr, with the participation of Dr. Emad Al Banany and Dr. Suzan Hamdy- Sports Fund Managing directors, and Dr. Dalia Shafik- CEO and Managing Director of Bluton Investment Funds Management and the fund’s board of directors. As well as a selection of chairman of the boards of directors for a number of financial institutions. In addition to a group of specialists in sports scientists, academics, economists, business men, and elements of the sports movement in Egypt.

 

 

  • In August 2022, UB and The Central Delta Universities Integration signed a collaboration protocol to support creativity, entrepreneurships, and small enterprises students. This comes in the framework of enhancing the fruitful cooperation between The United Bank and El Mansoura University, through 3 Nile Pioneers Centers covering Delta, Upper Egypt and Cairo. In the frame work of financial inclusion, supporting students, youth, and entrepreneurs.

Second: On the national initiatives level:

  • Digital transformation approach
  • In August 2022- UB conducted the first electronic litigation transaction in the economic court within the framework of digital transformation approach. Starting with filing a case before court, paying fees through credit cards, to remotely attend court sessions, receiving all resolutions and court delays on e-mails, until obtaining the verdicts in those cases, without the need to go to the economic court headquarter.

 

  • In September 2022, Availability of withdrawal and deposit services through UB cards, either (credit- debit or pre- paid) through service providers. That’s to simplify these services in the favor of clients in withdrawal, deposit, payment of banking obligations, especially for clients in governorates or villages where there is no UB branches involved. Payment of finance installments: Micro finance, personal loans, car loans (conventional or compliant with sharia), mortgage. New digital channels work 24/7.

 

  • In December 2022, UB announced launching Instapay application- for instant digital transfers, under the slogan of “Your Bank Online”. This application aims to expanding the base of financial inclusion and spread the culture of digital banking, though empowering the citizen to get benefits from the banking and instant digital services. This is through a direct link of all the client’s banks accounts. Enabling the client to easily and instantly make money transfer inside the Arab Republic of Egypt 24/7, through a mobile application.

 

  • In November 2022- UB launched an updated version of UB digital wallet, with a new distinctive package of different services. Enabling the client to conduct various new transactions, such as: bank statement issuance, fees services knowledge, evaluate each transaction, add accounts or banking cards. UB digital wallet is regarded as one of the top 10 digital wallets in the Egyptian market.

 

  • Mortgage for low and middle income citizens
  • In September 2022, UB announced that its finance portfolio exceeded 2 billion pounds. With this announcement, UB becomes the 7th low and middle income mortgage financer in the Egyptian market. According to the Social Housing and Mortgage Support report.

 

  • Green Economy and environmental friendly practices
  • In November 2022- UB announced the issuance of the first report of carbon footprint for the three headquarters. In the framework the Egyptian state and CBE approach towards green economy applications, to accomplish sustainable development according to the Egypt vision 2030, in order to reduce the negative impacts of climate changes.

The report applies general frames, and sustainable finance program as per UB strategy towards green sustainable finance and ccording to The Central Bank of Egypt requirements.  The report executes the ecologic footprint measurement axe mentioned in the Federation of Egyptian Banks Sustainable Finance Committee.

The report includes a meticulous measurement of UB practices through two phases:

  • The first phase is about the direct emissions- resulted from fuel burn and cooling gas leakage.
  • The second phase is about indirect emissions- resulted from energy purchase, supply chains, water consumption, and waste management.

 

  • In September 2022- UB supported South Sinai governorate in the framework of transforming the city into a green city, in the preparation phase of COP 27. Besides, UB participates in many green and awareness activities city campaign.

 

  • Financial Inclusion

UB led many financial inclusion national campaigns since 2018, which target special social segments, women and youth, all around the year. As well as, the integrated social campaign of financial inclusion, in the frame work of “Decent Life” initiative, that included many tours in 17 cities, among them were: Cairo, Assiut, Sharkia, Dakahlia, Menoufia, Alexandria, and El Tour.

UB Financial Inclusion achievements:

  • Spread awareness, financial culture, providing financial products, and suitable banking solutions, in more than 15 cities, 25 centers, and 30 of the poorest villages.
  • Cooperation with many universities and technical education institutions, in order to reach youth. Such as: The Central Delta Universities Integration protocol, which includes 7 universities.
  • Collaboration with El Araby school for Applied Technology, in order to spread the financial and banking knowledge among the technical education students, and coordination to open accounts for these students as the first phase in awareness.
  • Cooperation with a number of civil society institutions, like: X project and Youth scope, that pay attention to entrepreneurs among university students, and participating in selecting the winner projects, and opening banking accounts for them.
  • Collaboration with “fekretak sherktak” Your Idea is Your Company initiative, that’s affiliated to the Ministry of Investment. To train trainers in El Gharbia governorate, those who spread the financial inclusion awareness.
  • Cooperation with civil society institutions to reach people with disabilities, such as: cooperation with Awtad community to spread awareness and financial culture, open accounts, provide entrepreneurship training, with the possibility to finance the disabled, launch the handicapped account opening applications, and prepare many branches to serve them.

Third: Banking solutions compliant with shariaa provisions

The United Bank has launched a package of new products to the Egyptian market, that was met with great satisfaction:

  • In April 2022- As per CBE approach towards supporting the financial inclusion system, and working on increasing its rates, and simplify transactions to the citizens, UB has launched the financial inclusion account for those who have economic activities, and directed to targeted segments with special advantages, to encourage youth.

 

  • In June 2022- UB has launched a competitive package of certificates, Sukuk, saving pots with Egyptian pounds and foreign currencies, compliant with sharia provisions. In addition, a package of different finances with Murabaha system compliant with sharia provisions.

Fourth: In the field of expanding in digital and conventional branches

  • The New Capital building: in preparations to move into the new building, and in order to continue the march of success and social partnership, to maximize the urban and economic expansions, and with investments that exceeded 2 billion pounds, as per the Egyptian state vision 2030.

 

  • Opening five digital center services: UB is a pioneer in inaugurating dual branches in 2017, since then it’s been a tradition to open dual branches, until they are five by now. The Egyptian Shooting club branch, Cargo mall branch in El Sheikh Zayed, Concord branch in the fifth settlement, El Mokattam branch, and Gamasa branch.

 

UB has allocated an independent place in its branches called “UB digital center”. UB provided these digital centers with programming computers, tab lets and mobiles with the bank applications. These all are in the package of “Your Bank Online”, including the mobile banking, internet banking and UB digital wallet, all work 24/7. In addition to the programs package and modern technology, that enable the client to pay all the governmental bills without any effort, and save his/her time.

 

These dual branches aim to encourage clients and train them practically to use UB digital applications. As well as, they aim to spread the digital banking culture, and alleviate crowdedness in the branches, especially with Covid 19. In addition to providing a specialized work team to train the clients using these UB digital services.

 

  • Opening 3 new branches- 2022 witnessed the inauguration of five new branches. The last of them was the North Coast branch, and Al Ahram newspaper branch, to reach 68 branches all over the Republic.

Fifth: Settling Egyptian industry, and maximizing SMEs in favor of national economy development

UB works within a national framework to make fundamental changes in the youth contributions patterns regarding the development of the SMEs sector. Through an effective participation in CBE initiatives that reflect the political leadership approaches towards the financial inclusion and digital transformation.

SMEs sector was the first sector that witnessed a banking thought developmental process. That was through providing a package of specialized finance solutions, digital services, and technical consultancies, with keeping the growth sustainability and profits. In addition, UB encourages transformation into cash-less society. By spreading financial transaction culture, and raising the social awareness regarding the digital transactions mechanisms. UB devotes its marketing and media activities in the transformation process, and working by internet banking application with corporates. As well as, cash management and wealth management.

  • In February 2022- UB announces the four-year harvest of the Nile Pioneer’s hard work. UB has presented 1925 a technical and non- banking services for 660 Egyptian entrepreneurs all around Egypt. Aiming to improve work places, and provide support to entrepreneurs and small enterprises and start- ups, in order to face the challenges either locally or internationally. UB provided full support to a number of 297 entrepreneurs with a volume of about 100 million pounds’ finance.

 

  • In October 2022- UB crowned its efforts with the graduation of the first 30 Egyptian furniture companies within the scope of value chain development program, with the cooperation of Nile University, and The Egyptian Furniture Export Council. UB continues to support start- ups and Egyptian youth innovative ideas through 3 Nile Pioneers centers: Cairo, Dakhalia, and El Menia.

Sixth: Media and culture levels

UB adopts the continual improvement strategy, and believe in enhancing the effective communication mechanisms among the work team through all benches and departments. It works on the empowerment of the present leadership and building up a new generation of leaders. It also devotes a special attention to woman. A woman is regarded one of the most important effective doing power in the process of development and improvement. All of these are out of the UB’s belief in the power of media and culture in making public opinion.

UB launches many media internal and external campaigns, in order to enhance the corporate identity, and also to deepen the corporate values, that contribute to the digital transformation process mechanisms. In addition, many external campaigns that aim to deepen The Egyptian identity, humanitarian values, and social solidarity principles. Through creating successful partnerships with all mass media channels either conventional or digital, besides the social media channels.

Empowering and qualifying women leadership

In March 2022- UB has launched Lacky forum. The forum strategy is to develop and improve the efficiency performance of women, qualifying them for leadership.

The woman is a strategic partner in building up the nation. Besides, creating a constrictive community dialogue with women participating from different fields encourage them to exchange knowledge, skills, educational and experiences, this dialogue positively supports achieving the Egyptian state development. UB has announced that women represent 30% of UB team work. As well as 3 efficient UB ladies are among the board of directors.

  • In May 2022- in a unique precedent, The United Bank set the largest interactive and virtual “Iftar”. Under the slogan of “The Big Family” attended by 1900 employees in 18 governorates all around Egypt in a joyful atmosphere.

That was transmitted live through the video conference technology. Whereas the 18 governorates were divided into three major locations: Alexandria & Marsa Matrouh, Delta & Mansoura, upper Egypt: Minia, Sohag, and Assiut. In addition to the focal site of Cairo and Giza all in one interactively communicate circuit regardless of the distances and geographic locations.

  • In April 2022- UB launched an awareness campaign to all clients, in order to raise awareness about cyber security and fraud control basics, especially with the digital transaction increase and expansion of financial inclusion base.

 

  • In May 2022- In the continuation of UB efforts exerted to develop its talents workforce. UB inaugurated the second culture show for 41 talented team.

The show presented many talents such as stand-up comedy, sarcastic poetry, Arabic and English singing, handmade crafts, religious oratorio and acting.

  • In July 2022- In addition to the media campaigns regarding UB products and its distinctive digital financial solutions, there were many other campaigns. Such as: The summer campaign in Al Alamien new city, The Valentine campaign, The Golden Hour promoting Millionaire certificate.

 

  • In August 2022- A media campaign was launched using the latest modern media applications. By utilizing the social media influencers, in order to deepen the communication between UB and the target audience and public on social media channels.

Seventh: Empowering youth and investing in human powers

  • In January 2022- In order to enhance the role of youth in enriching the dialogue, cultural, and civilizational interaction between the different peoples of the world, and to activate their strong role in dealing with some international issues, The United Bank sent an official delegation of 12 employees, young men and women, representing the new generation of the bank's in various sectors to participate in the activities of The World Youth Forum – its fourth edition, held in Sharm El Sheikh, under the auspices of Mr. President Abdel Fatah El Sisi.

In May 2022- UB has declared its support to the student of the Applied Technology and Arts Academy- the first specialized school in MENA to the second year in row. As per the Egyptian state policy towards devoting attention to educational systems in general, and technical education in particular. That support was through issuance of national Meeza pre-paid cards, and granting them as rewards to these students all their school time, and also through internships. Besides, organizing a range of cultural lectures to spread the concepts and mechanisms of cashless transactions.

  • The United Bank provides a package of innovative financial solutions that target youth in different stages, especially z generation (from 14 up to 25 years) under name of “Ajyal”. In the purpose to develop financial culture and expanding the base of financial inclusion in all governorates, and as per the CBE resolutions. Youth can easily open accounts in UB only with their IDs, and have their banking and digital transactions around the clock with the utmost safety and freedom.
  • UB also provides another package of digital solutions called “Your Bank Online”, that includes internet banking, mobile banking, UB digital wallet, opening bank accounts without administrative fees and without a minimum amount. Besides, the set of digital services they can enjoy their distinctive benefits. Digital services work 24/7, to enable UB customers to: follow up all their accounts, either deposits, certificates or cards or financing. And make all transactions among their accounts easily. As well as, making external transfers for UB clients and non- clients with full safety. They can activate their cards, or report their theft and deactivate them. They can also pay bills and recharge cell phones and transfer money to any digital wallet.

 

  • In May 2022- opening new prospective of management and innovation to UB work team, to provide new services, products, and to participate in the digital transformation march. As well as, enhancing practical participation in setting UB strategies, and practice real management.
  • In October 2022- UB pays a great attention to the investment in youth by encouraging them to engage in many developmental projects: developing digital products, banking awareness, training groups internal and external groups to rationalize the consumption, banking products development group.

 

  • In August 2022- The United Bank stated its expansion in remote training techniques and direct trainings, with the cooperation of the largest training institutions either locally or internationally. To exceed 70 thousand training hours. Coming on the top of these institutions: The Egyptian banking institute, which has almost 60% of UB training budget.

 

  • In November 2022- UB launched the fourth edition of the High Fliers program, In order to start the practical participation of setting strategies, and executive plans of The United Bank, and real managerial practices.

Eighth: Sustainable Social Development

  • In January 2022- UB took the initiative to grant the amount of budget allocated for new year gifts to support “Decent Life” initiative, with cooperation of Tahya Misr Fund. Coinciding with Mr. President El Sisi announcement in the World Youth Forum that year 2022 is the year of civil work, UB has launched a national initiative, under the slogan of “Ala el khier natahed” For Good We United.

 

  • In January 2022- UB has launched the project of good convoys for the handicapped in South Sinai to a number of 1100. It included full medical examination (ophthalmic, orthopedics, internal specialty, surgeries, urologists, ENTs). The convoy also included a whole pharmacy that benefactors may need, optical glasses, analysis, x- rays. As well as, surgeries, and providing ear pieces, prosthetic devices. Besides, winter clothes, and blankets in the winter campaign.

 

  • In March 2022- Holy Quran Competition- UB continues organizing the events of the annual reciting Quran competition in 19 governorates, continuing UB adaption to an integrated program to socially and educationally sponsor Quran reciters. And for the first time, down syndrome people were included and reciters above 18 years old.
  • Delta Region 1: which includes (Gharbia, Menofia, Sharkia, Kafr El Shiekh).
  • Delta Region 2: Dakahlia.
  • Upper Egypt: which includes (El Menia, Sohag, Beni Suef, Assiut).
  • Alexandria Zone: includes (Alexandria, Marsa Matroh, Beheira).
  • Canal Cities Zone: ( Suez, Ismalia, Port Saied, Damietta)
  • South Sinai Governorate: (El Tour, Saint Catherine and surrounding valleys, Ras Sedr, Abo Zenima, Abo Redees, Dahab, Sharm El Sheikh)

 

  • In April 2022- Ramadan Feeding boxes in cooperation with Egyptian Food Bank to support poor families by distributing 1600 food boxes with the cooperation of Egyptian Food Bank. In the following regions:
  • Saint Catherine and the surrounding valleys.
  • Bahansa village and the surrounding centers.
  • Egyptian Food Bank cases in upper Egypt villages.
  • Misr Bokra for Development in El Saff in Helwan.

 

  • In April 2022- UB supported Orphanage in Maana village- Qena governorate, in line with Eythar department for Corporate Social Responsibility. UB provided financial and in-kind support in villages and Nags.
  • In April 2022- Orphan Day Celebration- in solidarity with the presidential initiative “Awladna Mostakbalna” Our Children Are Our Future, UB contributed in the orphan day celebration led by the Southern Military Region.
  • In July 2022- UB organized a sports event for the youth and children of Misr Bokra Assembly. A play ground was rented and a match has been played with the UB football team. UB provided a lunch meal and sports uniform, along with presenting medals and a cup for the winner team.
  • In October 2022- UB provided support for Endocrine and Diabetes Institute.
  • In October 2022- UB provided support to Baheya Foundation for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
  • In November 2022- UB provided support Nagaa Elgossor village in Eol Toud center, in Luxor. With the cooperation of Misr El Kheir foundation, in which damaging and re- building 20 houses with rebar. As well as, some development projects (motor- supported boats and fishing equipment) for 25 boats. And also, sending medical convoys to examine the people there (medical examination- eye surgeries- eye glasses- medications- eye drops- pediatric examination- dermatologists- analysis). Besides, raising the efficiency of 10 houses in Ezbet Sayedna village.
  • In December 2022- In the frame work of providing support to Baheya breast cancer fighters and with the huge preparations regarding new Baheya hospital in El Sheikh Zayed, The United Bank and Baheya foundation sign a cooperation protocol today, in order to continue the march of cooperation. The United Bank is among the most important economic institutions and Baheya foundation is a private health care provider according to the best international quality standards.

Ninth: UB received regional and international awards

In January 2022- The Global Economics awarded Ashraf El Kady, President of The United Bank “Leadership Outstanding Contribution Towards Banking Sector 2021” award.

The British award was granted according to six criteria that have been conducted in UB led by Ashraf El Kady for the five years from 2016 to 2021:

  • Institutional growth in light of governance and sustainable economy applications
  • Applications of innovative solutions for financial engineering
  • Rehabilitation of the educational and training system to create future leaders

  • In September 2022- International Finance Magazine has announced UB winning the award of “The best digital banking channels- Egypt 2020”. That was to crown UB’s exerted efforts in providing banking solutions and banking products through innovative digital channels and tools.

UB has been selected to this award according to meticulous criteria and accurate evaluation, by a committee of international experts in digital channels field, for the kind of services and banking solutions provided by UB to support its clients, either individuals or corporates, using the modern technology tools.

  • In October 2022- UB was awarded as a strategic partner by El Sheikh Abdullah Ben Ibrahim Ben Abdullah El Kharif. Highlighting its supportive policy in Arab investments, expansion especially in agricultural field, livestock development and value chains to achieve local self- sufficiency and raising export rates.

 

  • In October 2022- Nevine El Kabbag- Minister of Social Solidarity, has witnessed, on behalf of Prime Minister- Mostafa Madbouly, the ceremony of launching the first meeting for Baheya Foundation with success partners of individuals and corporates. On the side line of the event, UB led by Ashraf El Kady has been awarded for its strategic partnership with Baheya since establishment.

 

Dr. Nevine El Kabbag has given Gehan Abou Hussein- Head of UB Eythar CSR Baheya foundation shield of an appreciation. That was in the presence of Maya Morsy- Chairperson of The National Assembly for Women, Tamer Sahwky- Chairman of Board of Trustees of Baheya foundation, and Dr. Hossam Moafy.
